Abstract
Strange behavior in deep-sea cephalopods has occasionally been observed from crewed submersibles and remotely-operated vehicles. However, such observations are usually made by chance and so fragmentary that the results have seldom been reported in due form. The present paper reports the "cockatoo posture" of the cranchiid squid Teuthowenia aff. megalops, observed in the midwater zone at a depth of 1118m in the Japan Trench.
