Abstract
This paper focuses on the semi-solid extrusion of the wrought magnesium alloy AZ61A. The extrusion billets are used commercial AZ61A hot extruded material. The extrusion ratios of dies employed 6.3, 25 and 39, and the temperatures of billets are 300℃, 400℃, 460℃, 500℃, 520℃ and 550℃. The billet temperatures include from hot to semisolid temperature range. The extrusion speeds are 3mm/s, 30mm/s and 150mm/s. On this study, extrusion force, the microstructures of the products and Vickers hardness distribution of the products are investigated. Sound products are produced by semi solid extrusion and its extrusion force is roughly half as many as the hot extrusion force.
