Abstract

The flexible continuous materials like a newsprint, film, Magnetic tape, etc. are called web, and the control of the air film thickness in web-handling is an important technology. The measurements of pressure distribution at roller surface and air film thickness were done by using the impermeable web (PET film). In the pressure measurement, the rotation roller speed have been changed. In addition, visualization in the entrance area and the exit area was done, the PIV method was used and analyzed. As results of the experiment, the pressure of the spike shape was shown in the vicinity of the exit. Moreover, from the result of visualization, the vortex occurred in the entrance area, and the flow toward the upstream was able to be observed in the exit area. The generation mechanism of the pressure spike was able to be guessed from these.
