双子の母親の育児不安に影響する要因 : 不妊治療と育児の実態  [in Japanese] Analysis of twins mothers' childrearing anxiety and infertility treatment  [in Japanese]

Abstract

The number of families raising twins has increased, and childcare support for twins and multiple births is therefore becoming an issue at this time in which families often intend to raise fewer children. The purpose of this study is to investigate the problem of infertility treatment and the anxiety of mothers who raise twins. Subjects were 105 mothers of twins aged 0-3 years. Data was collected using questionnaires about infertility treatment and childcare anxiety. Fifty six% of twin-mothers conceived with infertility treatment, but only 70% had informed consent about multiple births. The majority (88%) of mothers were asked whether twin pregnancy was as a result of infertility treatment, and most of them indicated unpleasant feelings. There was a difference between primi-para and multi-para mothers about childrearing anxiety. Primi-para mothers complained much more about poor self-confidence. Mothers of bigger twins worried that they might abuse their children and became irritated with them. Mothers who could not consult with their husbands tended to feel bothered about childcare. These results suggest that individual care to reduce the physical and mental burdens of mothers is needed towards twins' families.
