金山町における「住宅用木材の自給構造」の成立要因  [in Japanese] Factors Involved in the Formation of a Self-sufficient System for Timber Products in Kaneyama Town  [in Japanese]

ボーダレスな資本と商品の移動は,地域の処置能力を超えてエントロピーを増大させ,身の回りの環境に重大な影響を及ぼす。この間題は,木材利用の分野に関していえば,地域で使う木材は地域で賄うという「住宅用木材の自給構造」を成立させることで解決できる。金山町では長伐期大径木生産を目指した林業経営により多様な金山杉製材品が安定的に供給され,町内の製材所,森林組合で生産された金山杉製材品を使い,金山大工の手で「金山型住宅」を建てる「住宅用木材の自給構造」が成立している。この成立要因として,金山町民の多くが「金山型住宅」の立ち並ぶ伝統的な景観を評価し,「金山型住宅」を建てたいと思っていること,金山町には住宅建築と金山杉製材品の地場利用を結びつける町民,金山大工,設計事務所,製材所,森林組合,森林所有者からなる「金山型住宅建築ネットワーク」が形成され,金山大工ができるだけ金山杉を使って「金山型住宅」を建てようとしていることをあげることができる。

In market globalization, most goods are transferred between regions. Unfortunately, this is deteriorating local environments by bringing in more goods than can be adequately disposed of. One way to prevent this is to build a self-sufficient system where the necessary amounts of products, can be supplied in the same area. We found such a self-sufficient system of wood products in Kaneyama town, in northeastern Yamagata prefecture. In this town, Kaneyama-style houses are built by local carpenters with sugi lumber produced from logs harvested from sustainably managed forests in the town. One of the factors responsible for this self-sufficient system for timber products in Kaneyama town is the preference of a lot of residents for the traditional landscape created with Kaneyama-style houses. Another factor is the existence of the "Kaneyama housing network" consists of residents, carpenters, architects, forest owners and forest company workers in Kaneyama town.
