Collaboration support tools improve the efficiency of problem solving in small groups. Two support tools, a traditional pen-and-pencil set and an interactive shared table display (Lumisight Table), were used in order to compare their effects on leadership behaviors and social skills in problem-solving tasks. Lumisight Table gave better group performances in problem solving that the pen-and-pencil set. In particular, participants accomplished the tasks were more extroverted than those did not when Lumisight Table was employed. Correlation analyses suggested that extroversion would promote self-evaluated leadership behaviors and active participation in the group problem-solving tasks. Participants using pen-and-pencil sets, however, rated their leadership behaviors and social skills higher than those using the Lumisight Table. Importance of objective indices, such as the degree of verbal and nonverbal behaviors, and future application of Lumisight Table to the social skills training are discussed.
