Recently the increase of new-comer brings new questions to Japanese schools. In Japanese public schools in general, there is no consideration for their student's religion. On the other hand, in Islamic countries the Muslim children usually take a significant quantity of religious education at public school. The purpose of this study is hence to investigate how Indonesian Muslim Children can develop their religious value in Japan, especially in Nagoya City (capital of Aichi Prefecture). Even the objective of this study is limited to Indonesian Muslim Children, but I intend to show the common educational issues for Muslim children living in Japan. From the short-term field research, I found a considerable gap in religious environment between Japan and Indonesia. This gap could be expressed as follows: 1) The different stance of the national governments against religion; 2) the treatment of religious education in the school systems; and, 3) the difference of social environment. Furthermore, it comes to clear that Indonesian Muslim children face to difficulty at Japanese public schools in conjunction with the school lunch (halal food), the fasting of Ramadan, the religious school events like Christmas, Star Festival (Tanabata-matsuri), Doll's Festival (Hina-matsuri), and so on. As a branch of the Indonesian Muslim Association in Japan, KMI Nagoya (Keluarga Muslim Indonesia Nagoya) created the religious educational environment for their Muslim children, by providing of voluntary activity of religious education at a mosque, as well as of religious education on basis of an Indonesian distance education program (Program Sekolah Dasar Jarak Jauh: SDJJ). Recently the distance education, which is managed by FAHIMA (Indonesian Muslim Women Association in Japan) and SDIT Fajar Hidayah (Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu Fajar Hidayah; a private school in West Java), became to be the new learning means for the Indonesian Muslim children.
