Abstract

The purpose of this paper is describing the concept of traditional under the framework of ontology to utilize and share. Subject matter is facades of Sanneizaka Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings in Kyoto, Japan. Ontology is built up based on Kyoto municipal regulations, results of surveys, repair and remodel records archived at the Urban Planning Bureau of Kyoto City. 3DCAD system finds and reads the data stored as ontology, and clarify the concept of traditional. By employing ontology, facades rated "traditional" are explained significantly, knowledge information is shared, and shared knowledge information is utilized by 3DCAD system.
