Among a lot of quantitative researches that investigate the relation between the work domain and the family domain, certain type of researches is called "Work-family conflict" research. These researches, most of them have been conducted in U. S.A., commonly use the scales which are constructed from the questions overtly asking about the conflict between work and family. This type of researches is growing also in Japan. And now, another dimension of the "work-family fit" is proposed by the recent studies in the United States. The dimension is "work-family facilitation".<BR>The main purpose of this article is to construct the "work-family fit" scales of this type with the data of "the women's lifestyle in middle age" survey in Odawara City. We included 15 items in our questionnaire assuming that these items would result in four constructs: work to family conflict, family to work conflict, work to family facilitation, family to work facilitation.<BR>The results of exploratory factor analysis and correlation matrix are as follows. First, work to family conflict is distinguished from family to work conflict as expected. Next, conflict and facilitation are not the opposite poles of unique dimension, but relatively independent factors. Finally, contrary to our expectation, facilitation factor was not divided into two directions, work to family and family to work. The data used here is restricted in regard to respondents' age group and to geographical area. More representative data is required to confirm our hypotheses. But the analyses and results in this work will be made use of as basic investigation of the scales in futher researches.
