インターネット上で利用可能なデジタルコンテンツが増加し,伝統的な意味での図書館の資料蓄積・提供機能の重要性が相対的に弱体化している環境下において,これからの図書館のあり方について考察する。図書館を構成する基本要素である,図書館という場所,資料,図書館員について,「利用者の期待」「付加価値」「インタラクティブな関係性」という観点から考察し,これらの図書館に求められる場所としての図書館の特性,インターネット空間上での図書館のプレゼンスの強化,機関リポジトリの推進,図書館員の新たな役割について論じる。

The author discusses the future of library services under the environments in which the digital content has been increasing and on the contrary the importance of traditional library functions, such as accumulation and service of printed materials, have been relatively becoming weak. The author rethinks the functions of essential elements comprising library services, namely human resources, physical place, and materials, from the viewpoints of "users' expectation", "value adding service" and "interactions", which followed by discussion on redefining "library as place", strengthening library presence in cyberspace, promoting institutional repositories, and the new feature of librarians.
