Northeast Asia, which forms the nucleus of East Asia, is currently in a period of great change. The socioeconomic system in the region has achieved rapid growth and is developing further still. It is clear that East Asia is leading the major developments in the 21st century global system. The structural changes in Northeast Asia are regulating the flow of a new age and are the impetus behind the reconstruction of all of East Asia. Northeast Asia forms the core of East Asia and holds the key to future growth and development in the region. Though in the past in a dependent position during the modern period, East Asia will lead the world in the global economy of the 21st century. This paper considers the construction of a new East Asia community in the midst of the 21st century global system.
