Multiple copies of flavonoid biosynthetic genes with different patterns of expression of tissue or cells and induction following environmental stimuli were identified in Legume. We try to analyze regulatory networks controling flavonoid biosynthesis in Legume. Three genes encoding MYB-like proteins that have high similarity to TT2, the R2R3-MYB transcription factor regulating proanthocyanidin biosynthesis were found. RT-PCR revealed that three MYB-like genes, designed LjTT2-1,2,3 display diverse patterns of expression. Three LjTT2s could function homologously to AtTT2 in transient expression experiments in A. thaliana leaf cells. The different reporter activity caused by LjTT2-1 was consistent with branching pattern of the phylogenetic tree. These results suggest that LjTT2 factors have diverse functions in the tissues in which they are expressed. Further analysis using transgenic plants is in progress.
