A selfconsistent Ising spin-oscillator coupled approximation is introduced and shown to yield a static susceptibility in qualitative agreement with the exact result for a non-interacting system. Extensions of the approximation to dynamics, and to a J-dimensional lattice of interacting oscillators are discussed.
