Abstract
Relationships between emotion regulation, family/peer support, and mental health were examined in Japanese adolescents. Over 200 high school students (mean age=16.3 years) were scored on two emotion regulation scales (emotion regulation and intrapersonal domain of emotional intelligence), the scale of expectancy for social support (four supporters ; father, mother, siblings and peers), and two mental health scales (depression and self-esteem). In this sample of Japanese adolescents, the ability to regulate emotions mediates the relationship between family/peer support and mental health.
