Abstract

The thermal effects which affect the cavitation performance of the pump were investigated experimentally by using liquid nitrogen. To measure the pump cavitation performance, the test setup which can be carried out experiments using both liquid nitrogen and cold water was constructed. An improvement of the pump cavitation performance due to the thermal effects of the cavitation was obtained from comparison of the results between liquid nitrogen and cold water. From experimental results, the cavitation performance using liquid nitrogen can be obtained from the measurement of the pump suction and delivery pressure, the pump suction and delivery temperature and the discharge flow rate. And it shows that the cavitation performance using liquid nitrogen is better than that using cold water. This improvement of the cavitation performance is thought to be due to the thermal effect of the cavitation.
