Abstract
Experimental studies on the performance of the Darrieus-type water turbine for the tidal current power generation are presented. The Darrieus turbine is know as a high performance turbine and has advantage in oscillatory flow like tidal current, but the hydrodynamic characteristics are not obvious. We conducted series of model experiments in the water circulating channel to measure the torque acting on the blade of the turbine. We also study about hydrodynamic characteristics of rotating wings in the flow by the Finite Element Method. Numerical results are discussed comparing with experiments. The water turbine will be installed near the bridge pier of Ikitsuki-Bridge at Tatsuno-Seto strait of Nagasaki Prefecture, in September 2006. The interim report of the in situ experiment will be introduced in the presentation.
