Abstract

With the opening of the electricity market and greater focus on renewable energy, there are substantial opportunities to further utilize water power resources. The aim of this investigation is to develop a new type micro hydro turbine which set in a small waterfall. Many debris dams and creeks with several meters drops are one of the most suitable for micro-hydro power production with this turbine. The hydro turbine proposed in this study is the simplest and most ecological than any other types, because almost civil works, incident equipments and complicated maintenance are avoided. This paper describes the experimental characterization of a micro hydro turbine which set in a waterworks. The relationships between the power performance and flow rate, head, relative configuration of turbine and waterworks are investigated. Furthermore, the proposed countermeasure using flow guide plate for changing of flow rate is discussed.
