Abstract
A new three-dimensional aerodynamic design method has been presented for wind turbines with brimmed diffuser. The design method is based on a three-dimensional inverse blade design method of Zangeneh and an axisymmetric meridional flow analysis. In the inverse blade design method, the distribution of the circumferentially averaged swirl velocity on the meridional geometry of the turbine rotor is prescribed and the corresponding blade shape is computed. In the axisymmetric meridional flow analysis, the axisymmetric flow is computed on a meridional plane, including the viscous forces and the aerodynamic blade loading modeled by the blade forces.
