Abstract
The gust events frequently bring about the breakdown and fatigue of the wind turbine generator system (WIGS). Therefore load calculation using gust model should be done during the design process of WTGS. The present paper describes averaged shapes (i.e. temporal velocity changes) of the gust events for several wind conditions, which have been derived from the time-series of the wind measurement conducted at Tappi Wind Park. A conditional averaging method based on Peak-Over-Threshold (POT) procedure was adopted for the derivation of the mean gust shape. The extracted mean gust shapes have been compared to those from NewGust model, which is a kind of theoretical model corresponding to POT procedure, and the validity of the model is evaluated. The spatial scale of gust has also been examined in relation to the wind direction and the turbulent characteristics.
