Abstract
A new approach is proposed for the water pumping system of a forest fire prevention tank. As the first step, a low-noise water hammer pump is developed in this paper. In a conventional water hammer pump, the valve plate makes a loud noise when it strikes the valve seat. Resultantly it may throw a bad influence on the forest environment when it is used in a forest fire prevention tank pumping system. In order to solve this problem, the cushion effect is introduced into the developed water hammer pump. From the testing results of the prototype water hammer pump, the striking noise between the valve plate and the seat is reduced from 80dB to 65dB and the effectiveness of the cushion effect is verified.
