Abstract
A new consideration about the noise reduction is necessary when the pneumatic system is applied to medical and welfare apparatus in a room. A high performance pneumatic silencer having effect of fade-in has been developed in previous papers. The fade-in is an acoustic characteristic that the A-weighted sound pressure level gradually increases. The pneumatic silencer consists of silencers, a fade-in device and a speed controller. It has been shown that the sound power level is very low compared with that of a normal silencer and the effect of fade-in reduces unpleasantness of noise. In this study, pressure, volume flow rate in the pneumatic silencer and displacement of a spool in the fade-in device are measured and noise reduction is examined from pressure fluctuations.
