Transient turbulent flow through concentric annuli with the suddenly stopping outer-wall-rotation was investigated by means of direct numerical simulation (DNS). In the transient state, the flow becomes unstable, the Reynolds stresses increase and the injection events are dominant. The coherent eddy structures are activated and become spiral immediately after stopping.
