Abstract
When a thin flat pate is released in still air, the plate sometimes falls aslant and automatically set into a rotational motion. This phenomenon is called autorotation. In this state, the unsteady fluid-dynamic forces act on the plate due to the vortex shedding and the rotation of the body. In this study, we focused on the auto-rotating phenomenon of a flat plate and investigated the flow around a rotating flat plate in a uniform flow. by the discrete vortex method. Vortex shedding pattern which repeat periodically every half cycle of the plate rotation were predicted and It was found that the effect of vortices which were formed near the plate on the fluid-dynamic force becomes large at the high angle of attack region.
