抄録

Homogeneous transition metal catalysis of 1,4-epiperoxides has been examined in aprotic organic solvents. In the presence of RuCl_2(PPh_3)_3, prostaglandin (PG) H_2 methyl ester undergoes a clean and stereospecific fragmentation to produce methyl (5Z, 8E, 10E, 12S)-12-hydroxy-5,8,10-heptadecatrienoate and malonaldehyde. Exposure of the prostaglandin endoperoxide to Pd(PPh_3)_4 catalyst produces a mixture of methyl esters of PGD_2 (17%), PGE_2 (11%), PGF_<2α> (41%), (5Z,8E,10E,12S)-12-hydroxy-5,8,10-heptadecatrienoic acid (4%).
