Recently attention has been paid to piezoelectric motors because of their compact size and large torque at low revolution. One promissing mechanism is to utilize the progressive waves associated with a circular ring. The finite element program is developed to solve the piezoelectric elastic structures of three-dimension. In the present paper, computer simulation of the ring-type piezoelectric motor operation is demonstrated. The frequency characteristic of the electrical input admittance and the modal shapes at the stationary excitation, and the rotatory trajectory at a point on the ring stator surface as the wave progresses are calculated. An equivalent electrical circuit is proposed, on which the operating characteristic can be predicted. Discussion is made in comparison with the measured data.
