As an approach to enhance utilization of Japanese forest by combining with the solution of problems of the local district, a process where forestry residue is co-treated with the district waste. Two processes were investigated. In one process, waste was collected within the range of a forestry planning unit, then dry waste biomass was gasified by high-temperature gasification and wet waste biomass was gasified by biomethanation, and the product gas was employed for power generation. In the other process, wet biomass was dried effectively, and gasified together with dry biomass, and the product gas was used for power generation. For the first process, total power generation efficiency as high as 11.6% as well as high economic benefit were obtained. For the latter, sufficient data was not available but higher efficiency and economic benefit was possible. By employing forestry planning units as a unit to design the process, and by applying co-treatment with waste, effective process to utilize forest resources was successfully designed.
