Abstract
In this study, the conditions in order to cause oscillations of cylindrical column subjected to horizontal harmonic excitations are examined. In vibration tests, two types of oscillations are confirmed. One is the tumble to forced vibration direction after a column rocks. Another is the characteristic motion that a column rotates about the centroidal axis. Using a numerical model considered restoring force produced by rocking, the acceleration amplitudes of excitations causing oscillations are investigated in dynamic analysis. Numerical results show that good agreement with experimental results and the potential for the existence of a boundary to the oscillations.
