In recent years, the urban atmospheric pollution is still an important environmental problem due to the rapid urbanization and industrial development. It is found that atmospheric pollutant concentration can be strongly affected by some local climatic factors (e.g., temperature, humidity, wind, radiation, etc.). In this study, we use the MM5/CMAQ model to examine relationship between these climatic factors and ground ozone (O3) concentration over Kanto (Japan) area. The nested grid system which cover a region of Kanto with grid resolutions of 9 km, 3 km, and 1 km respectively, have been employed to this study. The relationship between the simulated O3 concentration with temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity, and wind were analyzed over the August 2005, representing typical summer climate. The numerical simulation shows O3 concentration as function of temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity and wind direction. The positive correlation was found between O3 concentration with temperature and solar radiation, while the negative correlation was found between O3 concentration and relative humidity. The result of this study suggests that O3 concentration has a close relationship with climatic factors over Kanto area.
