近代日本における監獄建築の空間分析に関する基礎的研究  [in Japanese] A Simple Study on Analyzing Prison Spatial Architecture in Modern Japan  [in Japanese]

We perform analyses on the prisons from the viewpoint of history, architecture, and planar arrangement. Then we found following issues: 1) Prison architectures had been planed with importance on surveillance or confining prisoners. However, both the administration of punishment itself and the special architecture of prisons have been improved, with increasing inmate population ---regardless of the quality of prisons---, and growing care for human rights to avoid pain or suffering. 2) Prisons have been developed inseparably related to policies of administration, natural disasters, and technologies in those days. 3) Compartments in prisons become private, as it comes present days.
