Abstract
In order to investigate the effect of stress concentration and mirror finishing of austenitic stainless steel on very high cycle fatigue property, rotating bending fatigue tests were carried out on both circular notched and smooth specimens of SUS316L. It is shown that as a consequence of work-hardening caused by mirror finishing, the fatigue limit of mechanical polished specimens were about 6〜20% higher than that of electrochemical polished specimens. In the electrochemical polished specimens which did not break up to 10^8 cycles, a lot of slip bands were observed on the notch roots, but in the mechanical polished specimens, slip bands were not observed.
