推理パズル「タングラム」における洞察的問題解決  [in Japanese] The insight problem solving in the puzzle game of "Tangram"  [in Japanese]

Abstract

The insight problem solving in the puzzle game of"Tangram". The"Tangram"is a puzzle game which is consisted of seven pieces of triangles and squares. This puzzle is often used to educate creative and geometrical intelligence of children in teaching of mathematics. The purpose of this study is to explore insight problem-solving of Tangram. When participants try to complete a figure of lion which is constituted by the seven pieces, chronometric measures, operation of the pieces, and verbal protocols were recorded. The protocol data indicated that 7 of the 9 participants expressed emotional words when they get insight just before the completion of the figure. Further analysis about the operation of the pieces at that time revealed that the insight elicited from a combination of two same triangles involved in 7 pieces. These results suggest that there were different types of constraints about configuration and combination of the pieces, and it prevented to solve the puzzle game. Deviation from the constraints might be motivated by emotional evaluation about configurations of the pieces.
