External impulse-echo measurement of vocal tract and its feasibility for non-speaking telephony (音声) External Impulse-Echo Measurement of Vocal Tract and its Feasibility for Non-Speaking Telephony

Abstract

When talking about telephony for handicapped patients or aged people it is well known that the existing methods still relay on a text-to-speech driven model or applying signal changes to "improve" the quality of the output signal. The study presented here is a small piece in a big puzzle. We are going to show some alternatives to recreate a humam-like voice signal using the own speaker's vocal tract and an externally generated pulse.
