Abstract
Changes in circulatory and respiratory functions by intravenous or intraperitoneal administration of a rodenticide, norbormide, were investigated in anesthetized and conscious rats. Furthermore, the vascular changes in the thoracic and abdominal organs, and the eyes were visually observed. The administration of norbormide induced ischemic changes and anoxemia in both cardiac muscles and peripheral tissues following the extreme constriction of coronary arteries, and systemic small arteries and arterioles. Insufficiency of ventilation by abnormal pulmonary circulation, respiratory acidosis and the decline of cardiac output also accelerated the fatal poisoning with norbormide.
