Abstract
In order to improve futher more the energy saving type hull form M.S. NO.3705A of home waters cargo vessels (G.T. 499 tons type steel materials carriers) reported in SRC Technical Note No.10, last year, the authors tried again to design a new hull form M.S. NO.3704A, making the length a little longer and the breadth a little narrower for M.S. NO.3705A. In this case, the draft, displacement and shape of sectional area curve of the new hull form M.S. NO.3704A are kept to be the same as those of M.S. No.3705A. According to the results of model test, the resistance was decreased by about 3% owing to this variations of principal dimensions. Also, the effect of the shape of fore sectional area curve on propulsive performance can be seen in comparison with a energy saving type hull form M.S. No.3704 of the Cooperative Association of Japan Shipbuilders with same principal dimensions and same aft-body. The new hull form M.S. No.3704A with a gentle shoulder of the fore sectional area curve showed about 3% reduction of the resistance, compared with M.S. No.3704.
