Abstract
Five formulas are shown to predict mechanical properties of soft clay such as s_<u(mob)>, σ'_y, and m_v. They are empirical correlations between CPT and various laboratory test results conducted in East and South East Asian clay. Parameters used for interpretation of the CPT results are not only net cone resistance but also effective cone resistance and excess pore water pressure generated by cone penetration. Values calculated from the empirical formulas are compared with actual measurement values at the site in Osaka Bay. As a result, it is shown that CPT can predict design values of soft clay with enough accuracy.
