Eleven patients suffering from Dystrophia musculorum progressiva (BMP) were subjected to electromyographical (EMG) and evoked electromyographical (EEMG) analysis, with the following results. 1) All patients showed dystrophic potentials and some of them, complex NMU voltage, giant spikes. These are supposed to neurogenic pattern, apart from the question of being primary or not. 2) Fibrillation voltage (50〜150μV) occured in several cases under Fluothane anesthesia and these were confirmed by the intravenous administration of d-tubocurarin. 3) On the evoked electromyographical analysis, M-wave facilitation during repetitive stimulation of the tibial nerve was less than normal. Decrease of M-wave amplitude occured during lower frequency repetitive stimulations. This phenomenon was remarkable as the grade of the disease became severer. 4) Decreased conduction velocity of M-wave and increase of H/M were shown as the progression of motor disturbances. 5) Recovery on H-reflex was delayed and supernormality of the H-recovery curve was not noticed in advanced patients. But it is very interesting that in a patient of the limb-girdle type, H-reflex began to recover at 40 msec, and the supernormality reached 130%. 6) Subliminal fringe on the spinal motoneurone-pool in the mild cases was very small and in the advanced cases was very large, as in disuse-atropy. 7) The resting membrane potential of the affected muscles was extremely low and showed large deviation as compared with other myopathies.
