All students attending the University were questioned in this survey to gain an understanding of the prevailing thinking concerning careers by contemporary female medical students as well as to help improve the university education and working environment. The findings obtained from the responses which made up 87.1% of the whole, revealed that many students had ideas of their own careers from an extremely early stage and looked forward to dual roles in their work as doctors and also their experience in life events such as marriage, childbirth and raising children, which are peculiar to women. The survey found a strong commitment to preparing themselves and gaining as much information as possible for those purposes while they were still students as they worked their way towards graduation with their own objectives and plans. Better career information prior to graduation and improvements in workplace environments are essential for meeting the expectations of these students.
