Abstract
The present investigation was conducted to examine the developmental changes and sex-related differences in role-acceptance from the viewpoint of Life-Career or career development. Previous research has indicated that Role-acceptance consists of four components: role-satisfaction, role-esteem, role-competence, and roleachievement. Role-acceptance Scale and Salience Inventory were administered to 1,217 males and 871 females. Results showed that role-acceptance of males was generally the highest in their 40s, however, that of females was in their 30s. The relationship between role-acceptance and the participation of role-salience was examined for three age-groups: secondary school students, higher education students and adults who had already participated in the occupation. The findings suggested that role-acceptance of individuals changed according to their aging, because the life-roles of them were also transformed along with their career development. In addition, it was discussed that the role-acceptance of males was achieved through the specification of their life-roles, on the contrary, that of females was through the integration of them.
