Abstract

Alloys of near zero magnetic susceptibility are required for MRI-artifact-free devices. Au-28.3 mass% Pt alloy is a candidate alloy, but the mechanical properties are probably insufficient for many biomedical devices. In this research, the effects of the third element addition on magnetic susceptibility and mechanical properties are evaluated. Au-Pt-X (X is a biocompatible element) ternary alloys with various content of Pt tuned out to be MRI-artifact-free alloy, and the maximum Vickers hardness (Hv) after aging treatment was around 220, significantly higher than that of Au-28.3 mass% Pt alloy (Hv=140).
