Considerations for Prevention of Hull Failure in Ships

This paper treats the recent statistics of damage in ship's hull, typical examples of ship's failure and finally the preventive measures against the damage. Discussions are made on the cause of the failure basing on the results of the studies on onboard stress measurement, theoretical stress analysis as well as the consideration of allowable stress to be used at design stage.
