Issues Tackled at the Research Institute of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai

Abstract

The Research Institute of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai has been engaged in research on both fundamental and applied areas of naval architecture and marine engineering, in particular structural strength of hull and machinery, and material strength, since it was established in 1955. The results of the work of the Institute have been reflected in the Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships, and at the same time they have served as the technical foundation for field surveys. Technological innovations have had a major impact on the shipbuilding industry, as a result, ships offer extremely high quality and high levels of economy. Activities towards the 21st century include innovations in land and marine transport, and oceanography. Given these circumstances, diverse technical problems to be solved in the future have been constantly increasing. The Research Institute is committed to responding by focussing on these technical problems. In this report, current topics taken up at the Research Institute with research work presently undertaken will be introduced.
