1990年代からほぼ20年間,アセアンを軸に進められてきた東アジア地域統合に関わる日中関係についての専門的研究は少ない。中国は東アジア地域におけるコア地位を復興させることを目指してきたが,日本は中国に対し牽制外交を行い,日中のわたりあいが繰り広げられてきた。この研究は,このような日中のわたりあいのプロセスをリアリズムとシビリズムの総合的アプローチから検証し,日中それぞれの外交スタイルを分析し,さらに東アジア地域統合の行き先とそれにかかわる日中関係の行方を探る。
There has not been much specific research carried out on the subject of Japanese-Chinese relations, focusing on their impact on the regional intergration process in East Asia, which has been progressing under the framework of the ASEAN as its pillar from the 1990s for about 20 years now. China, which has been aiming to revive its status as the core nation in East Asia, has been confronted by Japan that is currently practicing diplomacy of containment vis-a-vis China, thereby leading to constant disputes in Japanese-Chinese relations. This research project will employ a comprehensive approach based on realism and civilism in order to study the process leading to such disputes and analyze Japanese and Chinese diplomatic styles, while investigating the directions of the regional integration in East Asia and future Japanese-Chinese relations.
