Abstract
携帯通信端末の高性能化・低価格化,および通信・放送インフラストラクチャの高度化・大規模化により,携帯インターネット,位置情報サービスや電子マネーサービスなどのモバイルマルチメディアサービスは飛躍的な進歩と普及を遂げている.しかしながら,実用化されたサービスの全てがビジネスとして成功し広く普及しているわけではないし,順調にサービスが提供されているとは限らない.本報告では,(1)2009年3月にサービス終了となったモバイル衛星放送サービス;(2)2009年から2010年にかけて相次いでサービス終了となる携帯電話のPTT(プッシュ・ツー・トーク)サービス;および(3)日本における携帯電話サービスで頻発したエラーに焦点を当て,失敗に至る経緯,海外との比較ならびに失敗要因の分析を示す.
Notable technological progress and market expansion has been achieved in mobile multimedia services, such as mobile internet connection, location-aware services, and e-money, owing to evolution of mobile terminals and supporting infrastructures and their cost seduction. All of the services put into the market, however, have not always been widely accepted, and have not always been uninterruptedly and properly operated. Failures, errors, and mistakes in developing, marketing, and operating such services are well worth studying. This report presents case studies of: i) liquidation of Mobile Broadcasting Corporation of Japan, ii) termination of push-to-talk services provided by cellular network operators based on voice-over-IP technology, and iii) recent failures in cellular communication networks and software errors in mobile terminals. Chronicles, technological backgrounds, probable causes of the failures, and comparison with other countries are presented.
