抄録

The trend which can also be said to be a social reform has also reached the health care sector unexceptional. However, on health care sector, it has still hung on to superstition and the myth "health care is special". When change of society is summarized, it is "conversion in quality from quantity". Quality is the conformity to customer's requirements as Dr. Juran defines it as "Quality is fitness for use". That is, if it does not suit requirements of patient or family even if the health care sector considers that only anything offered advanced and suitable health care, it cannot be said that it is high quality. Here, it is the reason a continuous quality improvement (CQI) is called for. Therefore, the hospital which we should aim at is a hospital which makes variation in performance small and does its best in a continuous quality improvement systematically. The concept and method of quality control which were established in the general industrial sector are also useful to health care sector. That is the concept and method of total quality management (TQM).
