Flow on a rotaing model propeller (MP. NO.K0241) blade is investigated experimentally using two different flow visualization methods in order to clarify the feature of the flow. Two methods used are the oil dots method and the oil film method. Both method showed fine oil streaks, and the locations of separation agreed well to each other. But directions of streaks by the oil film method indicate outward compared with those by the oil dots method. With some considerations about the directions of streaks, it is concluded that the real direction of shear stress acting on blade surface exists between the directions of streak by the oil dots and by the oil film method. Further, the feature of shear stress distributions on rotating blades predicted by the three-dimensional boundary layer calculation is confirmed with the measured oil streak length, that is proportioned to the shear stress, by the oil dots method.
