抄録

This continued paper presents a numerical method based on the Vortex Distribution method for analyzing aero-dynamic characteristics of two dimensional membrane sails. The treatment for a jib trim angle is modified from the former edition considering the fact that jib is controlled by a jib sheet on actual sloop rig. In the present scheme, jib trim angle can't be inputted directly but obtained by calculating the location of the jib clew by a iteration procedure. Aero-dynamic characteristics of jib which is controlled by the jib sheet through the fairleader can be calculated with this scheme while it is restricted to apply near the foot region due to the assumption of two dimensional sail. A series of numerical calculations are performed for jib and sloop rig to examine the effect of the position of the fairleader on aero-dynamic characteristics. It is confirmed that the position of the fairleader affect aero-dynamic characteristics and that the control system for jib by the jib sheet should be taken into consideration.
