Our country's SRI fund had been investing in corporations which put effort into environmental activities. In recent years, mainstream trends have been moving toward CSR evaluations for society/governance as well, as opposed to just the environment. We were able to summarize the ratings agencies into four agencies from the number of contracts for CSR evaluations applying to domestic corporations. Among the contracted research agencies, we were able to confirm that there were many think tanks. CSR evaluations in Japan are done by a limited number of research agencies, and it is thought that CSR-related evaluations won't change much even if the number of SRI funds were to increase. Stakeholders demand the corporations to be devoted to their core business, and to uphold fairness and transparency in various areas of their business activities. In order to stay afloat, corporations require stakeholder approval, and must undertake social responsibilities in accordance with their management principles. An amicable relationship with stakeholders also reflects on SRI fund evaluations. Because of this, a corporation which conducts its business in accordance with its management principles while also keeping up an amicable relationship with many of its stakeholders is thought to have a "desirable corporate image."
