この論文は2006年～2007年において実施された、身体的虐待に関する自己申告式の調査データを分析したものである。調査は973人の大学生・専門学校生を対象に実施され、405の有効回答を得た。本調査ですくい上げた身体的虐待は主として初期段階ないし潜在レベルの虐待であるが、この段階ないしレベルの虐待に対して適切に対応することが、より深刻な虐待の発生や拡大を防ぐ上で決定的に重要なことである。本調査分析から得られた主な知見は以下のとおりである。(1) 児童相談所などの専門機関で処遇している、明るみに出た子ども虐待は氷山の一角にすぎず、そのすそ野に膨大な虐待が潜伏していること。(2) 身体的虐待は低年齢児において発生率が高く、0～12歳がリスク期間であること。(3) 身体的虐待の主たる加害者は「母親」とくに「専業主婦の母親」が多いこと。(4) 身体的虐待の影響に関しては、「実母」から「その他の虐待」を「長期間」受けた場合に、「被害時の動揺」を介して、「長期的影響感」が被害者に高まること。(5) 身体的虐待への対応に関しては、被害者は被害を受けてもなかなかSOSを発信せず、SOSの発信の前に大胆に援助に踏み込むことが虐待の発生や拡大の防止の上で重要であること。子ども虐待の蔓延が叫ばれている現在、以上のような知見を踏まえて、現代日本における虐待リスク社会の仕組みと人々の意識・行動とをよりよい方向に改変していく努力こそが求められていると思われる。

In this paper we are analyzing the data from the self-report survey on physical child abuse in 2006-2007. The survey was made about 973 university students and vocational school students, and we got 405 valid responses. The main physical child abuse grasped by this survey is the early or potential child abuse. It is critically important for preventing occurrence and enlargement of more serious abuse to react adequately to the early or potential child abuse. The main findings from analyses of survey data are as follows:(1) The number of open child abuse grasped by some official child care institutios is only the tip of the iceberg, and a great number of latent child abuse is hiding out of range of open child abuse. (2) The incidence of physical child abuse is higher in early childhood and the ages of 0～12 are the risk period. (3) The main perpetrators of physical child abuse are mothers,full-time homemakers particulary. (4) The sense of long-term damages through a serious upset at abused time are stronger in case of the longer-term "other" abuse by victim's real mother. (5) The victims feel difficult to send SOS at abused time,so we must step bravely in helping victims before their asking help to prevent occurrence and enlargement of child abuse. We have to try to change the consciousness and behavior of people and the structure of abuse-risk society to better direction in contemporary Japanese society where child abuse is said to spread.
