The removal of hazardous trace elements, such as B and Se from a wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) wastewater obtained from a pulverized coal combustion system was examined. B and Hg were effectively removed from the simulated FGD wastewater by use of ion-exchange resins. However, Se was hard to remove from the wastewater by using the adsorption method. The removal of Se(VI) from the simulated FGD wastewater by use of bioreduction and TiO_2 photocatalytic reduction were also attempted. The removal efficiency of Se(VI) was considerably inhibited by some co-exist anions, such as NO_3^- or SO_4^<2-> under both reduction methods.
