Abstract
Packet transport technologies make possible establishment of a transport network providing a stable high quality equivalent to quality of the legacy leased line services. Nowadays, network infrastructures are shifting to a packet-based transport network due to request to meet customer needs for emergence of bandwidth hungry services. IETF and ITU-T jointly lead standardization activity of MPLS-TP, which enables network carriers to build high reliable packet-based transport networks. MPLS-TP provides OAM (Operation, Administration, and Maintenance) functions and APS (Automatic Protection Switching) function for providing high reliability. MPLS-TP based network offers bandwidth control for guaranteed-bandwidth with a high communication quality and manageability using a centralized network management system. This presentation explains status of standardization activity on MPLS-TP and details of functions specified in MPLS-TP standards.
